Okay, so I’ve seen the Watchmen film and as someone who hasn’t read the graphic novel, I’d say it wasn’t a very good film. It wasn’t adapted for the film medium but rather, was “directly translated” on-screen. Something that didn’t work out very well given the complexity and the uniqueness of the Watchmen graphic novel. I’m pretty damn sure most people who have no knowledge of the comics will find it hard to understand and care about everything that went on in the film. The film’s visuals are stunning though, it’s probably the most visually stunning film I’ve seen in a long time.
Even more Stunning is Malin Akerman, the hot chic who plays the second Silk Spectre. She was smoking hot in the film. I thought she looked somewhat familiar so I decided to check out her wikipedia entry and then I found she played as Freakshow’s wife in Harold and Kumar go to White Castle!
I had no clue that that was the case. It was pretty hard to forget her in White Castle even though her screen time was so small. She looked hotter in that film and there’s no fucking way someone as hot as her could be freakshow’s wife. Plus, she showed her honkers in that scene! I didn’t see her in any movie after White castle so seeing here in a big film like Watchmen was pretty amazing and pretty crazy at the same time. And here I was thinking that she was just some really hot, small time actress/model that I’d never see again but won’t forget….I was wrong.
Only in the movies can some hot Swedish chick go from here:
Just saw this short yet very funny skit starring 2 MGS fans from Mega64, a site that produces short films that recreate classic and current video games in real life. This time, they play as Old Snake and Raiden from MGS4 only to run into none other than the father of Metal Gear, Hideo Kojima! This is some funny shit!
This was probably done in San Francisco, CA during the recently concluded game developers’ conference (GDC). Oh and look for a speecial guest in the vid. Here’s a clue: Gears of War.
Christian Bale is my favorite actor. I’ve seen most of his films and I’ve been following his career since he shot to superstardom in 2005 as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Last July, during the filming of his upcoming movie, Terminator: Salvation, it was reported that he assaulted his mother and sister while somewhere in the UK promoting The Dark Knight. I remember reading about how he shouted expletives at his relatives (He was also detained but charges were later dropped). It was also during this time that it was reported that he threw a raging tantrum at the set of Terminator: Salvation. No proof of this electrifying performance ever surfaced…until now.
About 2 days ago, an audio clip of Bale verbally assaulting someone on the set of Terminator: Salvation whom he called a “DP” or director of photography. It was a relentless verbal assault of F-words, threats, and repressed ass kicking which lasted for almost 4 minutes. Bale was really pissed at this guy who was walking around on-set while they were shooting a scene. I’m no professional filmmaker but I’ve read that that is big DON’T on a film set. It makes the scene useless if he was caught on film, and also distracts the actors. I guess that didn’t really go well with Bale who is a very focused and serious actor. It also didn’t help that this was during Bale’s rigorous promotional tour for The Dark Knight – he was probably tired too.
His reaction though, was just insane. He lost some respect points from me because he sounded like he owned everything and everyone on the set. Even the film’s director (McG) could not calm him down. It’s hard to imagine how the guy he verbally destroyed felt after everything was said and done. He did make a dumb ass move and he should be fried for that but what he got was a bit too much.
However, at the same time, I actually liked Bale more. You know, in a crazy, American Psycho kind of way. The guy’s intense. I also find the audio clip funny. His fondness for F-words while in rage is borderline comedic, plus it’s very funny to hear a guy when he’s as pissed off as he sounded.
Here’s the audio clip, I took the liberty of including his raging Batman persona in it. Take note of some of the things he says! (I ain’t walkin on this set if you’re still hired!, Are you professional or not?!) Be warned though, this is really offensive:
F-word count: 40 (approximate)

Also, to prove that the Internet is mankind’s greatest invention ever, some professional audio guy remixed Bale’s outburst, added a beat, and came up with one of the funniest remixes in the history of time. Seriously, how am I supposed to minimize my blog entries when crazy shit like this keeps on happening? Check it out below:

Big edit: Christian Bale recently apologized in a radio interview for his rant. He clearly admits that he was wrong and that he was way out of line. He also clarifies the whole incident and provides his side of the story.
This is a great move and it could help him gain some of the credibility he lost. He sounded very believable too.
Let’s wind the clocks back a year, these fans and critics wouldn’t dare mention Heath Ledger in the Oscar nominations….I mean, what happened? Did…did their standards drop off? Huh? listen,I know why people now hold their little ZOMG! Heath Ledger as the Joker rules! group therapy sessions out in broad daylight…
The Dark Knight…
It’s simple, kill the actor.
Now, I’m a very big fan of TDK. If you know me on a personal level, then you would know about how much of a Batman geek I am. I eagerly anticipated the movie after seeing Batman Begins. I followed the excellent viral marketing and watched every trailer in awe. I expected nothing short of brilliance from every aspect of the movie knowing full well of the ability of Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale together with the entire cast. To be honest, I couldn’t have cared less about who Heath Ledger was prior to the announcement of his portrayal as the Joker. I knew him from a few films like 10 Things I hate about you, A Knight’s tale, and Brokeback Mountain but that was it. Ledger’s untimely death in January 2008 though sent shockwaves through-out the entertainment world. What followed was an immense hype machine that’s still running as I type this entry. Anticipation kept on building up as everyone and I mean everyone wanted to see Heath’s take on the clown prince of crime. Oscar Buzz soon followed together with the Internet’s sudden fascination with Heath as the Joker (Heath/Joker avatar and banner crazyness anyone?).
After seeing TDK, I really have to say that Ledger was great in portraying the character. In my opinion, second only to Aaron Eckhart’s performance as Harvey Dent/Two-face. However, I also feel that the hype was too much and that his performance was overrated by the media (prepares for massive flaming comments). I know that it is very bad practice to defame or negatively criticize the dead and all that. The media knew this but to some extent, I think they overdid it. In the end, everyone wanted to know what the hype was all about. One has to wonder though, would the hype and the critical and commercial success be the same had Ledger not died? Some people who weren’t really familiar with Heath were just raving about how great his performance was. A clear example of this would be some forum posters from the neoseeker forums, random people on the net, more random people on the interwebs, and someone I personally know, who referred to Heath as “Keath Ledger“. Talk about riding the bandwagon. I find it ironic that his death made him more alive in the minds of many. There’s no doubt that his death contributed to The Dark Knight’s monstrous commercial success. Further proof of capitalizing on his demise is the fact that Imax theaters re-released TDK on January 22nd, 2009 – a year after Ledger’s death.
Finally, this is in no way to discredit the best performance of Ledger’s career and the success of TDK.This is just a look at how hype can spiral out of control following someone’s death. He was spectacular in one of the greatest films ever made. He also gave us the ultimate portrayal of the Joker. I hope he wins the oscar for best supporting actor. God rest Heath Ledger’s soul. He really was the Joker. And the joke? The joke was on all of us.
* The Killing Joke is a Batman graphic novel and is arguably the greatest Joker story ever told. Ledger was given a copy of it in order to help him prepare for his role.
Time to mention the stuff that I enjoyed the most or kept me really interested in 2008.
Album of the Year: Death Magnetic by Metallica
I wasn’t that big of a Metallica fan before listening to their 2008 album but after listening to it entirely, Jesus Christ…the album is fucking amazing. It’s fast, heavy, and kept me headbanging all the way through. This is the album I listened to the most this year. From what I’ve read, this is the best Metallica album in almost 2 decades, a lot closer to the material from their first 4 albums – which is what most people want from them anyway. Judging from how much I liked Death Magnetic, I’m one of those people.
Movie of the Year: The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight = My favorite movie of all time
Being a Batman fan since childhood, I was blown away by every aspect of this movie. It truly deserves the critical and commercial success that it received. This is probably the best comic book superhero based movie of all time and it’s also my favorite movie of all time. I saw this flick on Imax and 2 or 3 times in the theater! (Yes, I do have a Batman hard on) Amazing performances by the entire cast (god rest Heath Ledger’s soul), intense action, a script that just screams epic, and dialogue that’s sure to make you think about real life crime, justice, and heroism. I believe in Harvey Dent.
Best game that I played all year: God Of War: Chains of Olympus
Since I don’t own a PS3, I only play new games on my PSP. I’m a big fan of the God Of War series on the PS2 and this PSP sequel is just as good as it’s console counterparts. Brutal action, the best graphics and most technically advanced game on the PSP, an engaging story, and nerve-racking puzzles hooked me to this title from my first play through. Yes it only takes a little over 5 hours to finish but when a portable game is this good, I won’t even care. Besides, I actually like the fact that it’s not that long of a game since I also do a lot of other stuff. Bottomline, if you have a PSP, make sure you play this game.
The first black US president? Martin Luther King’s dream has been fulfilled. I hope he’s up to the tremendous tasks ahead of him. The world’s counting on you Obama!
