Finally got around to writing another blog entry. My semester is over and now I have a lot of time to do the things I love doing. And one of the things I love to do is to show off how smart I am. Well, not really. I am not that smart. Still, I’m pretty proud of finally passing a subject which I found to be really, really hard. So yeah, I guess I’m pretty smart…I think.
I’m not really used to posting this kind of things but I do feel the like writing introspective stuff from time to time. Reflecting on what’s going on with my life and….well, stuff. Okay,so first things first, I’m pretty happy right now. Happy in a sense that there’s always someone who makes my day worth it no matter how annoyingly and frustratingly fucked up things get. Yes, I’m still that angry nerd who likes to hate a lot of things, but this time, I think I’m liking things a bit more. I recently got myself a girlfriend, and I find it funny how much difference one girl can make.
It feels pretty good. Walking with someone is relatively better than walking alone while thinking that I’m better than everyone else. (Although, I still think that way.) Having that occasional “nagging” session makes me feel like someone actually cares. Hell, even corny-ass jokes get funnier when you share a laugh with someone you love (yes, I wrote love in a blog post). Man, I better stop this part before it gets even cheesier.
Anyway, on to some other things. What’s up with someone I work with saying that I don’t use my programming knowledge? The fact that he knows little to nothing about programming gives him no right to tell me that I’m not using what I know about it. I don’t know how he defines “not using” but I’m pretty fucking sure it doesn’t cover trying to make my own 2d game, and working on a CMSC 21 bonus exercise for more than 10 fucking hours!
It’s really hard when people don’t know what they’re talking about. Sometimes I really think that the world would be a better place if people talked if they have something to say, not if they have to say something.
Hey guys, contrary to what some of you may have thought, I am indeed alive. Time was really scarce this past month and I couldn’t think of a anything to blog about, hence the month long absence. Anyway, i just though I’d post an entry about most of the stuff I’ve been up to since my last post.
I saw Transformers 2
Wow, what a disappointing movie. I was expecting it to be at least as good as the first one. It turned out to be much much worse, having Shallow story (if you can even call it a story), and underdeveloped characters. Too much fighting can be boring after a while especially when you don’t have an idea about what’s going on and who’s who.I can only think of 2 good things about the movie, the score which had Linkin Park’s New Divide, and it made me realize that the 1st movie was pretty good.
The shittiest day of my life…literally
Wow, I had a pretty bad case of loose bowel movement (LBM) last weekend. I probably hit the can for about 14 times in 48 hours. Holy…shit, I’m sure glad that’s over.
Going back to watching Chuck season 2
That shitty weekend led to me watching 3 or 4 episodes of Chuck’s second season. I was surprised by how good this second season is. The episodes are funnier, the action is better, story’s better, and the episodes just do a better job of having me hooked than the 1st season did. I don’t watch a lot of TV shows but Chuck is definitely my favorite show right now. I’ve always liked nerd/geek stuff and all this action-espionage shit and chuck combines both very well. Go watch it!
Tons of Schoolwork
I’m always thinking of what school stuff I have to do next. This semester’s starting to feel really busy.
Listening to the newly found Linkin Park demo disc/song
An amazing find by lplive.net. A new Linkin Park demo disc from 1999/2000. It contains new variations of demos of songs from Hybrid Theory and the Hybrid Theory EP. PLUS, it contains a new song entitled “She Couldn’t”, one of the softest songs from Linkin Park. The demo is a very good listen especially for LP fans.
Playing Rock Band: Unplugged
I’ve almost unlocked all songs! Some songs are too fuckin hard though (chop suey just to name one) My bands have members which are Metal Gear characters! I might post pictures here soon.
A quick look back at underachieving on exams, 4 seconds of TV time, (possibly) landing a new girl, and being mentioned in the Kojima Productions report podcast.
I just went through one hell of a week. Monday had me taking a computer science/programming exam after a very rushed review session. I just hope I get a high enough grade for my performance to labeled “outstanding” (hey, it matters to me). I’ve been playing and programming with C/C++ and other computer science shit for years so not doing excellent is just underachieving.
Tuesday was my TV debut. Well, sort of. My boss (I do part-time work) got a TV interview regarding the 2010 national elections. Yeah, he’s a concerned citizen. So ABS-CBN, the nation’s number 1 (or 2?) TV station had cameras in our office last week. They took footage of my boss working and doing stuff and fortunately for me, they needed footage of my boss interacting and working with, well…co-workers. That’s where I came in. A few nights later, I saw my face (or part of it) on TV! We looked like we’re talking about some work related stuff. Hey, 4 seconds of TV time is pretty good. Have you been on TV lately? I even saw my laptop on-screen. It’s pretty big since the footage was broadcast globally. I’m moving up the ranks man!
Half my face is on TV!
Come Wednesday, things were moving pretty slow, until night time that is. I had dinner w/ this girl I’ve been going after for a few months now (read my Valentine’s Day post). Seemed like it was like any other night until it became longer and longer. God, I thought Wednesday night wasn’t going to end. And as perfect as it was, I didn’t want it to. This was girl-age win.
Thursday? It didn’t even start. Friday was better because it is Friday, and I’m in love. I actually thought Friday sucked. A little class called “elementary statistics” was giving me a hard time. But then I took the time to download the 92nd episode of the Kojima Productions Report. KP report is a podcast from Konami’s (yeah that famous Japanese game company that brought us Contra!) Kojima Productions studio, led of course by the legendary Hideo Kojima.
Kojima Productions are the creators of the award-winning and best-selling Metal Gear series of videogames.
I’ve been listening to this podcast since 2007. It’s about Konami’s and kojipro’s past, present, and future games; the videogame industry, and all the workings of a videogame company like Konami. Being a hardcore metal gear fan and dreaming of becoming a game designer someday, this WAS my favorite podcast. Two weeks ago, I asked a question to the guys (and gal) of the podcast through their website. My message read:
Hey guys I’m really glad that the KP report is back online. It’s been my favorite podcast since before MGS4 came out. Now, I have a question that I really hope you would answer on the air. I’m a Filipino communications major in college with my minor being computer science. Do you think that someday I can make it into Kojima Productions as a game designer? It’s been my dream job since I finished MGs3 in 2004.
Thank you guys for bringing the podcast back and thanks to everyone at Kojima Productions for creating the Metal Gear series.
What blew my fucking mind was that they actually read and answered my question over the air! Not only that, they actually gave me tips on how to join the game industry. And they even brought up my question and my name several times! Most of it was during the actual comments section and then near the end of the podcast. I think they spent a lot of time discussing my question and giving me advice. This is just fucking awesome! I appreciate and really kept in mind everything that they said. I can’t thank them enough. Damn, this means so much to me now. It marks my first contact with people who actually work within game industry, and hopefully, it won’t be the last.
I made a clip of the parts where they read and answered my question over the air. I also put pictures of the hosts of the Kojima Productions Report, Sean Eyestone and Christine Kogure. They mostly work with the design and language translation part of making games (two areas I’m interested in). Check out the clip below.
Finally, you can listen and download episodes of the Kojima Productions report from their website.
Wow, that was an incredible week. Seriously, holy shit; possibly the most eventful and exciting week of the year so far. It’s times like this when I have to agree with That 70’s show when they said, “It’s a wonderful life”.
So I just joined twitter today and I’m amazed at how cool it can be. Reading updates from people/organizations that really interest me is something I can’t continue to pass up. Twitter’s really different from the social networking crap I stay away from. New information that I’m really interested in can pop up at any moment and that’s pretty cool.I agree with the twitter home page when it says: “Twitter really puts you in controland becomes a modern antidote to information overload.”
The one thing that probably convinced me to join was Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, who recently joined twitter, tweeting about the new Linkin Park song to be used as the theme for Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. The new song’s entitled New Divide and It’’s out on May 18th!
I don’t really know where everything went. Is the third sun hotter than the 1st? Or colder than the 2nd? One thing’s for sure though, being third isn’t better than being first or second.
May will bring 2 movies that I’m looking forward to seeing, X-men Origins: Wolverine, and Terminator: Salvation. I’m pretty excited to see both, but I’m more excited to see the latter, since I’m a big Terminator fan. Terminator Salvation is my most anticipated movie of the year! Christian Bale fighting machines and cyborgs? what geek in his right mind wouldn’t want to see that?
As for the Wolverine movie, I still haven’t watched it. An unfinished copy leaked online several weeks before the May 1st release date but I didn’t even think about downloading it. I don’t want to see an unfinished version of the film. I’ve always liked the Wolverine character in the X-men comics and cartoons of the 90s so the new X movie surely has me interested.
I’ll probably see both movies with my entire family since my mom loves Hugh jackman and (get this), is a long time fan of the Terminator Franchise! She once told me a story about watching the first Terminator film in 1984 while she was still in college. Three words, BEST MOM EVER. My younger brother likes most of the things that I like and that includes X-men and Terminator. And my dad? Let’s just say he loves ass kicking in super-hero and sci-fi films.
Expect a review of the 2 films a few days after I see them! Again, X-men Origins is out on May 1st while Terminator Salvation hits theaters on May 21st.
